My "Pennsylvania Dutch" German Line

An estimate of over 50,000 Germanic origin people entered Pennsylvania in the late 1600's and early 1700's. Although family legend says the KITCH line came from Poland, researchers believe the KITCH line came from Germany before the Revolution. KITCH is not a Germanic spelling and it might have been similar to KEISCH. Many poor Pennsylvanians left few records and moved from one county to another in hopes of bettering their lot. Lutheran Church Records as well as Census, Bible, Cemetery and Military data of have been found with spellings of Kitsch, Kick and Keech .

The KITCH men and women worked the land, had large families, taught school, attended church, and had strong convictions. Pvt. Martin Kitch joined the Pennsylvania Militia of Lancaster County during the Revolutionary War. Lt. Samuel Axtel Kitch took his own horse into Co. H, 7th Cavalry of Shelbyville,
IL. in 1861. A young William Kitch set out for Kansas in 1883 to homestead his piece of land and built a farm upon it. His father Samuel followed in 1886 bringing his large family in 2 wagons to homestead his own site.

KITCH resarch would not have been possible without the aid of my Mother who lived it and cousins Stan Kitch, Richard Kitch, Tom Kitch and Jerry Garrison. Jerry's communication and ever-growing research is my "rock" and source of inspiration. Please visit his website - click the link below.
